Delhi, Agra and Jaipur form India’s classic Golden Triangle. The route is easy to understand on a map, but the right duration depends on arrival times, travel pace and how many major sights you want to enter rather than simply pass.
What the route includes
India’s Ministry of Tourism describes the Golden Triangle as Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. Most private road itineraries connect the cities in that order or reverse it to fit flights, trains and hotel plans.
The route name does not define one compulsory itinerary. Delhi can focus on Old Delhi, New Delhi or both; Agra can be a day visit or overnight stay; Jaipur can combine the old city with Amber Fort and nearby landmarks.
Five days: the compact version
A five-day plan works best when your international arrival and departure times are favorable. Expect to choose a smaller number of headline sights and keep intercity days structured.
This pace can suit travelers who prefer an active schedule, but it leaves less room for delayed arrivals, long meals, craft visits or a second morning in any city.
- Day 1: arrive and take a light Delhi orientation.
- Day 2: focused Delhi sightseeing.
- Day 3: travel to Agra and visit selected landmarks.
- Day 4: continue to Jaipur.
- Day 5: selected Jaipur sightseeing or departure, depending on flight time.
Six or seven days: the balanced version
An extra one or two nights can turn the same route into a more comfortable first visit. You can protect a proper Taj Mahal morning, give Jaipur a full day, and avoid making every transfer day carry a full sightseeing list.
Seven days is especially useful after a long-haul arrival. Keeping the first day light reduces the chance that jet lag or a delayed flight erases an important part of the itinerary.
Where to add an extra day
Choose according to interest. Add Delhi for markets, museums and layered urban history; Agra for slower Mughal-heritage visits; Jaipur for forts, architecture and craft traditions.
